NZMA welcomes ALL Athletics NZ Competitive Members

This page has been posted to provide information to Athletics New Zealand (ANZ) Club athletes who have NEVER joined New Zealand Masters Athletics (NZMA) … who in fact, may know very little or nothing about what we have to offer!  It will also explain again to current members, the membership options that are now available to all masters athletes in New Zealand.

Firstly, there are three groups of masters athletes within New Zealand.

  1. Masters who join an Athletics New Zealand club and pay registration fees to Athletics NZ, Local Centres & Clubs.  Many members of this group compete all year round in track & field, cross country and road events.
  2. Masters who join New Zealand Masters Athletics and pay registration fees to NZMA & Local Masters Centres.  Members of this group compete mainly in just track & field events.
  3. Masters who have joined both groups in the past and paid ALL fees!

NZMA have worked with ANZ to help simplify the process.

As from 1st September 2016, Athletics New Zealand and New Zealand Masters Athletics signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) whereby we agreed to work together for the good of masters athletes in New Zealand, by sharing membership.

Why create a MoU?

We needed to clearly define the roles & responsibilities of ANZ & NZMA and how we would work together.

One of the reasons given as to why many club masters athletes have not joined NZMA, is because there has always been two groups of fees to pay … all very confusing!  Masters who have not paid the NZMA & local Masters Centre fees have been excluded from our events, plus events organised by Oceania Masters Athletics (OMA) & World Masters Athletics (WMA).  It’s time that changed!

How will the MoU affect Athletics New Zealand club athletes?

NZMA acknowledges that you, as a ANZ Competitive Member, are already supporting the sport by paying ANZ, Centre & Club fees.  We believe you should not have to pay two sets of fees.  Therefore, NZMA has set a ZERO dollar fee for all ANZ Competitive Members and you are now considered part of NZMA.  Our hope is that this will encourage you to compete in masters events organised by NZMA, Oceania Masters Athletics & World Masters Athletics.  Are you aware that there are non-stadia events held at OMA & WMA Championship events?

For a detailed explanation of the membership options now available, please read Membership Flyer.  Please note that some Masters Centres may required you to pay a local masters fee, used to offset the running costs of that Centre.

The current membership fee structure for both NZMA & ANZ is as follows, excluding Centre & Club fees.

GroupNZMA FeesANZ Fees
NZMA Competitive Member$60.00$0.00Fees retained by NZMA
NZMA Social Member$45.00$0.00Fees retained by NZMA
NZMA Volunteer$0.00$0.00Fees retained by NZMA
ANZ Competitive Members$0.00$60.00Fees retained by ANZ
**ANZ Social Members$30.00Fees retained by ANZ

** ANZ Social Members will need to upgrade their membership to ‘Competitive Member’ of either ANZ or NZMA if they intend to compete in Championships events organised by ANZ, NZMA, OMA or WMA.
